take her to get a deep conditioner at a salon for her dy hair. start using a nightly leave in conditioner in her hair EVERY night. a good one is humectress and paul mitchell. about the gray hairs, did anyone in your family have their hair go gray or white early in their life? specifically another woman? i know someone whose about 15 now and gets her hair dyed regularly because she has been growing gray hair since puberty because of her mothers side of heredity.

You need to post this question to the people in the medical field, just in case. Putting some warm olive oil on her hair and letting itsit for fifteen minutes in a plastic bag before washing it out might help. Once a week. Optimum care shampoo and conditioner-in a pink bottle and found in the African-American hair care section if you're lucky enough to have one where you live is also good for coarse hair. Don't shampoo everyday. Try every third day. She can of course, bathe every day. Just no shampoo.

Ok~ stop using baby shampoo on her. She is no longer a baby. Get her to a GOOD beautician and ask them about a shampoo that is suppose to help for cradle cap. I was told that this shampoo would cure anything. It cured cradle cap on a ten year old boy. It is suppose to be Green tea Shampoo. Can't remember who makes it.

The REASON she is getting dry hair IS the baby shampoo!! STOP using it immediately!!

Baby shampoo is TOO gentle and mild for some people. (I shouild say most people.) It has a tendency to dry the hair folical more than other shampoos simply BECAUSE of it's gentleness. It doesn't have enough of the nutrients our hair needs to survive.

When I was a kid, I had just the opposite problem, it made my hair greasy, flat and lifeless, while my neighbor experienced the same problem you describe your daughter as having.

I can't explain why because I'm not a chemist, I can only tell you what I know to be true.

As I got older, I tried different shampoos trying to find the right one FOR ME. I did finally find one that made my hair behave, but that was only for a short time. I have found that changing my shampoo on a regular basis changed my hair and made it behave better. I also found that using a conditioner on an unfrequent basis did WONDERS for my hair as well.

I would suggest you try the same thing since not one shampoo makes everyone's hair behave the same or their wouldn't be so many different brands and types within a brand.

Experiment a little. Try a particular shampoo for a week and see if you like it. If not, then try a conditioner with it and see if that works, if not try something different until you come across one that does what you want.

Remember, different shampoos and conditioners are made to do different things.

You may like one brand of shampoo and a diferent brand of conditioner.

As far as the gray hair, well, I knew an 8 year old boy in school who was almost completely gray. It was kinda cute and so was he. He excuded self confidence like you wouldn't believe!!

Who cares. Teach your daughter that she's adorable and that everyone loves her no matter what she looks like and all will fall into place.

Good luck. I hope you find the right answer for her... and you, Mom.

Lots of love to both of you!!

Get her to a doctor and have her thoroughly checked out pronto. I am assuming that at 9 she isn't using dyes, perms, hairdryers etc so she should not have problem hair. Children's hair is usually quite silky.

I don't want to alarm you but some very serious conditions could produce this kind of effect. Best to rule them out.

I have had white hairs, just a few, since I was a child. I also have very thick, dry hair. I don't wash my hair as much as most people because it makes it so dry it breaks. I have used olive oil in my hair to moisturize it. It may sound strange, but the oil absorbs and disappears overnight. My hair never gets greasy. Now that I'm over fifty I have more gray hair, but not very much especially compared to my mother who had to color her hair at 45. I don't think baby shampoo is as mild as its rumored to be.

I use pantene for dry hair.

I'd like to say that the white hair shouldn't be a concern, but who knows.

I'm only 17 and I have quite a bit of gray hair and more seems to pop up with time. I've never thought to have it checked out though.

As far as the dryness, try a hot-oil treatment. Depending on the severity of her hair, you may need to do more than one.

Also, mayonnaise. I'm totally serious. Massage mayonnaise in to her scalp and through her hair. Wrap it in saran wrap and leave it it for about 15-20 minutes. Be sure to rinse it out thoroughly.

Good luck.

it must be a sign of deficiency try using natural shampoos made from hibiscus leaves and apply it as an alternative to shampoo.

Baby shampoo will make her hair drier. Try "Biolage Hydratherapie Ultra-Hydrating Shampoo", "Biolage Ultra-Hydrating Balm" (conditioner), and "Biolage Daily Leave-In Tonic". All these products are professional products by Matrix and can be purchased in salons or online. They will work without hot oil therapy. Was she in a swimming pool a lot during the summer? If so, there must be a chlorine build-up in her hair. Remove it first with a clarifying shampoo (leave the clarifying shampoo in for 10 minutes, rinse, and shampoo again, apply conditioner).

There can be several reasons for gray hair on a 9 year old. This link provided a good description, I hope it helps:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gray-ha...

Gray hair in a child is an uncommon problem and should be evaluated by a doctor or dermatologist. Causes of gray hair in a child include:

Premature graying (canities). This is the same process that occurs with aging in adults when hair pigment cells simply stop making pigment. Most children with this condition are otherwise healthy. Premature graying may also be associated with other conditions, such as vitiligo, alopecia areata, thyroid disorders and anemia, including vitamin B-12 deficiency.

Patches of white or gray hair (poliosis). Some children lack pigment cells in a patch of hair follicles at birth. Others lose hair color when the immune system accidentally destroys pigment cells in a localized area. Some forms of poliosis can be inherited. Poliosis may also be associated with certain skin disorders, such as vitiligo, and genetic disorders, such as Marfan's syndrome and Waardenburg's syndrome.

Treatment of graying hair in children is the same as for adults and includes hair dye and various styling techniques.

well she is old enough to use adult champoo and conditioner..I suggest trying that. As far as the white hair....I began growing gray and white hair at age 10. Sometimes it is stress induced, other times its genetic. Mine is Genetic unfortunately.
