Hair question...?

I am a white male with really thick, wavy hair. In order to deal with it, I usually keep it cut really short, almost bald.

However, I would like to grow it longer except for the fact that it is nearly impossible to comb after it grows to any more than half an inch long. I've had it the same style since I was a little kid due to how hard it is to comb when it gets longer. I am sick of the same hairstyle.

How can I grow my hair out without having an afro? Can I use chemical straighteners meant for african hair? How much do they cost? How long do they last? After my hair gets to a certain lengh, will it be easier to comb without using a straightener?

I would like to have shoulder length straight hair all around my head, but I don't think I'll ever have anything more than a really thick fro.

Any hairdressers or other people with really thick hair who can help me out?

Thanks.

Hair question...?

you can get your hair chemically straightened, that would not cost that much, it will last until it grows out, but you need to get the re growth straightened every so often so it looks good. trust me it will be worth it and you wont have to struggle with your hair being a fro anymore. . good luck !

Hair question...?

DO NOT RELAX YOUR HAIR!! for crying out loud!! sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you willl never have long straight hair unless you use a straightening iron. until it grows there you want it have it thinned out by a professional. it should help with the thickness alot!

Hair question...?

Yes, you can get a relaxer, there are plenty of (non-African-Americans) who get their hair relaxed...it lasts until your hair grows out...usually between 6-8 wks when you will need either another application or an edge-up. There are some really great products at Aveda, they just came out with a new line for men and the brilliant line works very well for thick, and dry hair. I would definitely go to a salon for a relaxer and try Affirm Mild or sensitive scalp first...you don't know how your scalp will react at first...make sure not to scratch your head at least 24hrs prior to the application, or you may get blisters on your scalp. Relaxers at salons are generally around $75.oo
