Sounds like Andy Warhol....
He was shot by some militant feminist...don't recall her name...but I know she had founded SCUM (Society for Cutting up Men, I think). She had gone to Warhol's studio demanding that he return a script she had sent him...but she was turned away. She came back and shot him. This was in the late 60's or very early 70's.

The woman who shot him did so because she was obsessed with him, not because of a feminist group. She made up her twisted mind to kill him so no one else could have him.

Everyone on here is right. It was Andy Warhol. He was shot by a disturbed woman who was a militant feminist and was one of the hangers-on that Warhol was fascinated by and allowed in his world... when he found it her too disturbing he cut her off and did not allow her into the factory (or his studio). She became obsessed with him as a result, wanted revenge and sneaked in and shot him. I don't remember the year this happened but Warhol survived the shot. The surgeons closed the wound but could not retrieve the bullet (I think they got some fragments but not the whole bullet). The bullet over time had started corroding. About fifteen years after the shooting he had become infected by the corrosion in his stomach and died of septis.
